The Basics

How A Heat Pump Works

01

Capture Heat From The Air

The outdoor unit draws heat from outside air even on a cold Irish winter day.

02

Boosts The Temperature

A compressor raises that heat. Each unit of electricity delivers roughly three to four units of heat.

03

Heats Your Home & Water

Warm water runs through your radiators or underfloor heating and fills your hot water cylinder.

FAQ

Heat Pump Questions & Answers

Thinking about installing a heat pump in your Dublin, Meath, Kildare or Louth home? These are the questions we hear most often. Please get in touch if your question is not answered here.

Will a heat pump work with my existing radiators?

Often, yes. Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures than boilers, so some rooms may need a larger radiator to stay warm. Our free assessment tells you exactly which radiators, if any, need upgrading.

SEAI currently offers up to €14,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump, plus a grant towards the required technical assessment. Your home must meet SEAI’s heat loss standard to qualify, and we check this during the assessment.

A typical installed system for a 3–4 bed home costs €17,000 to €26,000 before grants. The final price depends on your home’s heat loss, radiator upgrades and hot water cylinder. You get a fixed written quote after the free assessment.

Most homes with reasonable insulation suit a heat pump. SEAI requires a technical assessment to confirm your home’s heat loss is low enough, and some older homes need insulation or window upgrades first. We tell you honestly if your home isn’t ready.

Modern air-to-water heat pumps keep running efficiently well below the temperatures Dublin and Meath typically see. The key is sizing the system correctly from a room-by-room heat loss calculation.

Yes, this is one of our most common jobs. The heat pump connects to your existing heating pipework, and oil customers also say goodbye to the tank and deliveries.

Usually, yes. Heat pumps need a cylinder designed for lower temperatures, and most older cylinders aren’t suitable. We include a compatible cylinder in your quote where needed.

Most domestic air-to-water heat pumps are exempt from planning permission in Ireland, provided conditions such as noise limits and siting rules are met. We check this for your property before installation.

Savings depend on what you’re switching from, your home’s insulation and your electricity tariff. Customers moving from oil typically see the biggest savings, and running the system on a night-rate or smart tariff increases them further.

Modern outdoor units are quiet, comparable to a fridge hum up close. We position the unit to suit you and your neighbours, and there’s no noise inside the house.

Air-to-water heats your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water, so it suits whole homes and qualifies for the SEAI grant. Air-to-air blows warm air into individual rooms and is better suited to single rooms or cooling.

Once a year, to keep it running efficiently and your warranty valid. We service most major brands, including systems we didn’t install.
